1. "On Monday night I half-awakened at 2:30 am with itching eyes, and I was rubbing them. Strange, I thought, I only itch like this in the Spring and this is Fall. Then I noticed that my eyes felt VERY swollen, then my lips and the upper palate of my mouth. I dragged myself out of bed and looked in the bathroom mirror - I barely recognized the face that looked back at me, and I could feel the swelling progressing. Within the next few minutes my nose swelled completely shut and I had to breathe through my mouth . I haven't had any prescription medications in my house for over 10 years. I went back to bed and started watching myself and praying. I didn't want to go to the ER unless absolutely necessary, but if my tongue started to swell or if my chest started getting tight, I'd have to. About 5 or 6 minutes after I took the transfer factors, I felt that my symptoms had stopped worsening. Good. That gave me time to wake up and think. I could still breathe through my mouth and talk with effort. I woke up my roommate and told her what was up. She about fainted when she saw my face, but she dressed and took me to a local pharmacy where she talked the cleaning people into giving her some Benadryl. I didn't know the store wasn't opened all night anymore. I took 2 while we waited in the parking lot to see if the swelling would start reversing. If not then we were heading to the ER. Fortunately the Benadryl did start reducing the swelling and I was able to go home. By the next morning I was able to see my physician. Today (Wednesday) I'm back to a light day of work, but now I have injectable epinephrine that I will have to learn to keep with me in case this happens again. I feel extremely fortunate and grateful that I'm a very healthy person, that I knew what was happening and what needed to be done, and I had transfer factors in my refrigerator. If I hadn't taken transfer factors as I did, I would have HAD to go straight to the ER. I don't recommend this method of handling anaphylaxis, so please don't use my story to suggest that.
